Create a balance.

Don't overdo it, keep the same color tones (neutrals in this case) to create a balance, a pop of color won't hurt but it should be subtly executed. ASOS is my go to resource for color block pieces.

4 terms you need to know

MONOCHROMATIC:

Different shades or hues of the same color.

COMPLEMENTARY:

Contrasting colors that work as opposites.

ANALOGOUS:

Related color schemes that are adjacent to one another (ex. reds to yellows)

TRIADIC:

Three colors that are equally spaced around the wheel - these colors are usually harmonious.

Accessorize the color block.

Feel free to use your belt, bag, sunglasses, etc. to color block, but keep in mind the color wheel rules.

Avoid prints!

Remember, the goal is for your colors to work in harmony, don't complicate your ensemble with a print - being subtle is key.
